Adaptations...A Way of Life...
After gaining background knowledge of adaptations, squid, and the squid’s many adaptations, our class dissected squid earlier this week. Based on your knowledge, which adaptation do you believe is the most important for the squid's survival? (Be careful to give specific details to support your answer.) Please review the blog comment expectations found in the column to the right.
Squid have many adaptations that allow them to survive in the ocean. I think the siphon is the most important adaptation for squids to live. It easily allows them to swim faster in the deep water. Especially since they have many predators it help them to survive by escaping out of their reach. The siphon releases water and ink to quickly push itself and swim in the water. It helps them reproduce by not getting eaten.
ReplyDeleteI think the most important adaptation of a squid is the tentacles. I think the tentacles are the most important because without the tentacles the squid could not catch its prey. The tentacles are a part of a squid that helps it grab its prey and bring it into there beak so they can eat it. The tentacles also have suction cups on the tentacles which helps it get a firm grip on the prey. Some squids also have sharp hooks at the end of the longer tentacles to help them catch their prey. That is why I think the tentacles are the most important adaptation for a squid.
ReplyDeleteThe squid has many adaptations but I think that there is one that is more important than any others. I think that the squids large-scale eyes are its best adaptation for many reasons. Their broad eyes help them because they are able to see in a wide rage of directions which helps them spot their few predators. Also they help them because they can spot their prey, which is mainly fish and crustaceans. There eyes are also helpful because they can still see very well even when they are deep under the water and there isn’t much sunlight. The squid has a lot of adaptations that help it to survive underwater but its eyes are one of the most important and necessary adaptations the squid has.
ReplyDeleteI think that the squid’s best adaptation is the ink sack because when a predator really scares the squid then the squid can spray the ink and swim in the other direction, away from the predator. What I also like about the ink sack is that it does not squirt on a little scar that when the predator is really threatening the squid then it sprays the ink.
ReplyDeleteI think that the most important adaptation of a squid is its long tentacles. The long tentacles are used to catch food from a distance and give it to its arms. Also the squid is able to easily catch other prey with their tentacles. The prey is then easily caught and eaten.
ReplyDeleteWell I think the tentacles are the most important because it grabs it's prey. The reason why is because squid needs food and if it didn't have their tentacles then it will have no food and it will not live. The tentacles also grab things and it also helps them swim too. It can reach far because the tentacles are flexible organs. Well there are two tentacles
ReplyDeleteI think the squid’s most vital adaption is it’s long tentacles. Since it has short, stubby arms, it would be hard to grab prey. With the tentacles, it can reel in prey. Therefore, it has a wider range. These are reasons why the squid needs it’s tentacles.

Out of all adaptations a squid has, in my opinion the most important part is the hearts. First of all, the hearts pump out blood to the squid’s body to keep it swimming and moving in the water. Second, it gets oxygen to spread throughout the body so the squid can keep breathing. Lastly, they spread blood to every part of the body which keeps the whole system flowing smoothly. To wrap up, out of all adaptations a squid has I think the hearts are most important.

ReplyDeleteAfter I have gained knowledge about lots of the squids adaptations. I believe the squids most helpful adaptation is its ink sack, I believe that this is the most important because the only other creature that I know that can spit ink at an attacker, another reason why it is important is if the squids is half in the attackers mouth it can spray the ink in its mouth because the ink tastes bad.
Sincerely Zach A.
I believe the squids best adaptation is it’s eyes. I believe this the most important adaptation because the squid can almost see 360 degrees. This is important because then they can see predators coming from anywhere. That improves there numbers/population. This also might help with finding food. That will happen by the fish trying to sneak out from behind and away, but the squid will see the fish trying to sneak away and grab it.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the squids long tentacles and suction cups are the most important for its survival. The squid’s body is not made to catch any food without its suction cups and tentacles. For example the squids mouth can only break away little pieces and is not harmful. On the other hand the squid's tentacles reach out and grab the prey and the suction cups hold the prey tightly so it can’t escape and bring the food towards the squid. The squid’s tentacles are long so they can grab prey a couple of feet away from the squid as squid is not a fast swimmer. If it didn’t have them the squid could not receive and food and soon die. That is why I find that adaptation as the most important for the squid to survive.
ReplyDeleteThe adaptation that I think is most important for the squids survival, is the two tentacles on the sides of the squid. I think that these are important for the squids survival because they are what the squid use to capture their prey. This is important, because without them the squid would not be able catch, kill, and eat. Another thing that the two tentacles do to with the squids survival is that they help the squid swim. without these the squid would torpedo through the water no control. The tentacles are like the steering wheel. They help the squid keep balanced and let the squid go where he can go. Without this adaptation, the squid would not be alive the millions of years it has.
ReplyDeleteI believe the most important adaptation the squid has is the ink sac. I believe this for the following reasons. following reasons . Because if the squid feels threatened or endangered it can squirt out ink so then the predator can barely see and then the squid can swim fast and leave to avoid getting eaten. Also it is a good adaptation to have because it could also be used as camouflage. So if the squid needed to blend in or not be seen it can squirt it’s ink. So for both of the reasons the squid uses it’s ink sac as an adaption is to use to keep safe and use it as a way of survival.
ReplyDeleteI think the most useful adaption to the squid is that it's eyes are are on the side of it's head. This would help the squid because if it's eyes were on the front of it's head, then it's tentacles and arms would get in the way of it's sight. This would make it harder for the squid to hunt and escape predators.

I think that the beak is the most important adaption because if it takes too big of a bite then it will die from damage to the brain. The beak's job is to take small enough pieces of its prey so that they do not harm themselves in the process of eating. When I said that it harmed the brain, I meant the esophagus is next to the brain and it can rub against it and cause harm.
ReplyDeleteThe most important adaptation for the squids survival is its colossal eyes. After doing the squid dissection I learned the many squid adaptations, but its tremendous eyes stood at the top of the list. The eyes on squid are not at all like humans. Instead, they are huge and on the sides of their head. With this peculiar position of their eyes, the squid can see almost 360 degrees. They can see behind, side to side, or in front.Their only known blind spot is directly in front of them. With this key format of their eyes it allows them to escape from predators quickly and scan for food. They can locate predators from almost anywhere which allows the squid to swim safely through the waters or prepare for an epic battle. Also, squid can search the ocean at 360 degrees looking for its food source. Clearly, I believe the most important adaptation for the squids survival is the squid eyes.
ReplyDeleteWhich adaptation is most useful or is most important to the squids lifestyle? There are many answers to these question and all can be backed up with good evidence but in my personal opinion I believe that the beak and tentacle are the most important because of these reasons.
ReplyDeleteFirst the tentacles. The tentacles are important because they are how the squid pulls in his pray with all of the suction cups on his tentacles it is easy to grab its prey even if it struggles.
Second the beak. The beak is important because it is what crushes the food as soon as the tentacles grab and pull in the prey.
Those are the most important in the whole system in my own opinion.
Your loving student,
Isabella R.
The squid has many adaptations that are important for its survival. I think the squid’s most important adaptation is its beak, because the squid would damage its brain if it didn’t have a beak. The squid’s beak is important because it tears food into small pieces so that they easily fit through the squid’s esophagus. If pieces of food are too large then the squid’s brain will be damaged because the squid’s esophagus goes through the brain. Due to prevention of fatal brain injury, the beak is the squid’s most important adaptation.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the adaptation that is most important to a squids survival is its ability to use its tentacles to grab the prey and pull it in to eat. I think this is true because without this adaptation, squid wouldn't be able to get food as easy. They would not be able to get their prey without getting to close. Without this adaptation, squids probably wouldn't be able to survive.

ReplyDeleteDear Mrs Blake,
I believe the most important adaption of the squid that we looked into more the day we dissected the squid was the ink sack. The ink goes out the funnel and creates a huge smoke screen in front of predators so they can't see the squid or get disoriented. This would be a very important adaptation because, other than swimming away they don't have any other reassurance of protection. With the ink blocking the predators view it would be very difficult to locate the squid. SO really it is something that squids use for survival.

I believe that the squid’s most important adaptation is its eyes. I think this because the eyes help because they help spot predators so the squid can make a quick escape so it does not get killed. This part is most important to the squids survival because if it didn’t have its eyes it wouldn’t be able to spot predators quickly and it would have gotten killed. Also, the squid wouldn't be able to see its prey as quickly because its eyes weren’t so advanced.
ReplyDeleteThe squid has many adaptations. They are all very important, but the most important is it’s tentacles. Two of the tentacles on a squid are longer then the other ones. The role of the two longer tentacles is to grab the food from a farther distance away and hold it close to the shorter arms. Then the arms can bring it close to the beak so it can eat the food. This adaptation is the most important because it allows the squid to eat, and get more food. The squid wouldn’t be able to live if they didn’t eat. It would be harder for the squid to grab food if it only had the same size tentacles. The longer tentacles are also important because they have suction cups on the end of them. The suction cups help to grab the food and hold onto it so that the arms can grab it, and give it to the beak. The squid has many adaptations and this is the most important one for many reasons.

The most important squid adaptation is the one that most would guess. I believe that is the one which propels it forward. This is useful to get away from predators. It propels it fast and then stops, then again, then stops etc. This is useful in many more cases than any of the other squid adaptations.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the fins are the most important adaptation for a squid. Squids obviously live underwater so they swim. Since their bodies are a torpedo - like shape, it is very sleek, but unfortunately isn’t very balanced in general. That’s when the fins come in. There is one fin on either side to keep the squid from constantly spinning around when swimming.
ReplyDeleteI think that the most important adaptation for the squids survival is its ink. I believe this because if the squid had no protection or no defense so it would not be considered I predator anymore. Also I think that a lot more creators would eat him and not be afraid of anything because he has no defense and a shark would just think of it as a fish with no defense. The last reason is because if it is not considered a threat and gets eaten a lot then the squids population will go down.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the ink sac within the squid is the most important part of the squid’s adaptation in it’s environment. The ink sac can spray ink when the squid is in trouble from a predator allowing it to swim away. Also, by doing this, it reduces the sense of smell for the predator for a short amount of time making it harder for the predator to track the squid. The bad part about spraying their ink though, is that it takes a long time to reproduce the ink. So, if a squid is in trouble by another predator and has just sprayed there ink, they have to use there other techniques in getting away or else they will get killed.

The adaption that is most helpful to a squids survival is the placement of the beak. The squids beak is in the middle of its tentacles and arms. This way, the squid can grasp food with its arms and tentacles, then pull the food into its beak. The beak is small, so the squid can only take small bites, but that’s good, because if it swallows something too big, it could choke.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the squids best adaptation is the siphon. I think this because it allows the squid to swim faster. This would help the squid because if the squid can swim faster than it allows it to swim away from predators. Also I think can help the squid because it is easier to catch their prey so they don't burn all there energy, and if they have energy to spare then that is helpful.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I think the siphon is the most important. I think this because it allows the squid to swim fast, this can come in handy at times. For example if the squid is trying to get away from a predator than it is easier for the squid because it does not have to use a lot of energy, while the predator does to catch the squid. Also I think this important because if the squid is trying to catch the its prey than it once again does not have to use a ton of energy.
ReplyDeleteI think that the most important adaptation on a squid is the siphon. It makes them be able to get away from predators, swim super fast, and catch up to their prey. It works by sucking in water then pushing it back out in a fast motion over and over so it can propel itself forward. This makes it swim super fast so it allows them to catch little fish or whatever they are trying to eat if it is a really fast swimmer. Or it can do the opposite for swimming away for predators.

There are many squid adaptations. Arms, beak, Siphon.... But if I had to choose the most important adaptation, I would choose the ink sack. The ink sack is a body part inside the squid that produces ink. When the squid feels threatened, it squirts its ink at the predator and swims away the opposite direction the ink is sprayed. This ink tastes bad to the predators which makes them leave the squid. This adaptation is vital for their survival. It is their defense mechanism which helps them not get eaten. If squids did not have an ink sack, they would have to run away from the predators which would make their survival rate much less. Squid ink is also one of their strongest way to evade predators and if they did not have it, they would have less options to escape predators.
ReplyDeleteI think the most important adaptation is the the siphon . It helps them swim away faster from predators or catch up to something to eat. What it does is suck the water in a pushes it out so it can get that motion going which makes it fast. That helps them to swim faster.
ReplyDeleteI think that the ink sack is the most important adaptation for a squid. The ink sack is important because if they're tired after a previous attack, then they get attacked while they're tired, they can just squirt they're enemies. likewise, if they're getting attacked and then trapped, they can create a cover to get away.

In my opinion the siphon and ink sack are the most important adaptation of the squid for survival. The siphon is the place where the ink from the squid is jetted out. This action is used to make an escape from predators or other harms to the squid. When the squid uses the siphon and ink sack is allows a dark cloak for cover long enough for the squid to get away. This has protected the squid and allows the squid to live and reproduce, continuing the population.
ReplyDeleteI think that it's tentacles are the most important. Because the squid is a slow moving creature and fish once they see it then they quickly swim away. Since it's tentacles are so long they can catch the fish from a really long distance and they are mega strong so it never slips off of the prey. It can also be used to defend it self from predators by lashing them in front of it.
ReplyDelete-Tri
I think the most important adaptation of the squid would be the tentacles. I think this because it helps them to get their food without being harmed by whatever it was trying to eat. For example, if the squid was trying to eat a barracuda, its tentacles would help because the barracuda couldn’t attack from where it was. But the squid could pull it in close enough to start eating the barracuda without being harmed.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the Squids most important adaptation is its place of its beak. The beak is in the middle of the arms and the tentacles. This helps it to where it can swim and also grab food with its arms and can easily eat it. This helps its survival to keep swimming to get away from predators but also to be able to eat at the same time.
